Is this a virus attack?

I am on Windows 10 with my Toshiba laptop. It happened to me a couple of times and I don't know if it is a virus attack?

My computer would lost internet connection. I am wired into the router. But the laptop doesn't show the network icon anymore on the lower right corner. Then when I login in, it doesn't recognize my password. Both times, I fiddled with it for about 30 minutes and still not able to login or connect.

I took the easy way out by restoring the system from my Macrium mirror image. The machine works normally after the restore.

Any idea?

The restorations showed that there was nothing wrong with the hardware, both the machine and the network. The only elements were some software was interfering with the network and the login process. I think it was a virus attack. Just curious what kind of virus it was.

The hardware could be fine but possibly the driver corrupted. Did you install any Windows Updates recently? Next time that happens open device manager and look under the network adapter to see if your card is still listed and if it is showing any problems.

Usually a restart will fix things like this.
No, it didn't for me. I restarted it twice and same problem with the login It didn't recognize me the first time and then when I tried again, pressing the enter key after entering the password got me nowhere.

Sometimes you can lose internet connection and by unplugging the router and modem (if the router isn't built in with the modem) for about 15-20 secs. Then start modem first, then router and then the laptop. I have a friend that loses her connection from time to time, and I told her this route. And she gets back up and running. It just happens sometimes.

Maybe your internet was down for a little bit? Patience or resetting your router can fix that.
YES! But in windows (as I suppose it is) you do not need an internet connection to logon to your computer-account..

It is not usual to have to logon to your router to access the internet...!

I would check the router to make sure it is:
1: updated
2: Has a secure password, and a unique SSID (if it has wi-fi)

There has been alot of automated exploit-kits around lately, so there might be an intrusion that led to some malfunction..

(And a tip I learned from a Swedish IT-Pro is that you may create passwords that are more secure and easy to remember and to type, by:
Invent a sentence of at LEAST 8 words, then type the 1:st character of each word as the password..
(The sentence: My white dog has 2 black legs gives the password: Mwdh2bl Just as an example!)

Your password will be hard to understand if anyone looks you over your shoulder (does not include any real words)
And at the samt time it is so simple method that even smaller children may use the method..
