Windows 7 Will I still get a "windows.old" folder?

So this weekend I'm rebuilding my PC and reinstalling windows. Yes, I'm still using Windows 7, and you can pry it out of my cold dead hands, I refuse to move to 10. I have to use it at school and work and I hate it. It's not compatible with half of the stuff I need or use anyway.

/end rant ANYWAY.

While I am doing this, I am reinstalling Windows to my SSD instead of the main 1TB drive like I have it now. When I do this, will all my libraries and stuff on the 1TB drive still be moved to a "windows.old" folder? That's all I need to know Thanks.

No, they will not since you are doing a fresh install on the SSD. Your old install will remain there.

Is there a way to remove Windows off the drive but keep the files there? Or should I drag and drop it onto my external, format the drive, then copy them back over?

You can delete whatever you want off the 1tb drive once you have windows installed to the SSD. How many partitions were on the HDD? Did you have a main and then data partition? You can always copy user data from HDD to external, then wipe the drive, partition it how you want and copy data back to it. Just depends on how you want to set it up.

I'll just have to do the copy-format-partition-then copy back method then, cause I have the 1TB drive by itself, it's not partitioned lol. I'll just drag and drop everything in the library folders and let it copy overnight. Thanks!

At least I run 8.1. I hate 10 too but 7 is so antiquated these days.
