What port on the back are you plugging into? Try plugging speakers into the green port on the back. Also, you need to go into sounds and select proper output device.

What MSI board is it? 170A isn't sufficient detail. There's H170's, Q170's (unlikely), and Z170's on top of MSI's GAMING, GAMING PRO, PC MATE, etc...

What are you trying to plug in? Stereo speakers? surround sound speakers? etc...

You have something plugged into the 3.5mm connections on the back right now? I think they are autosensing and may show that way if they have nothing connected to them.

It seems something is plugged in to the back panel. What is plugged in where I have it circled? Usually that port is labeled green not red/pink. I just unplugged mine and it went totally dark no color.

It looks like you have 5 connectors on the rear panel. For 5.1 why is anything plugged into the front?

Is your internal header for the front I/O and audio plugged into the right spot. Almost sounds like it's shorting and freaking out the whole system.

Does it act like it's trying to send audio to the headphones? It's usually labelled on what it is in Sounds Devices.

The board's manual is brutal. In the BIOS how is the audio controller configured? I assume it is enabled or you wouldn't see anything, but are there other options? Like a legacy mode or something? The manual only says enabled. If it's anything else, that could be an issue too.
