Computer upgrade - advise needed

Hello all,
I am looking to upgrade my gaming PC
Current stats

I5 4430 cpu
B85-HD3 mobo
XFX Radeon RX 580 8gb gpu (recent purchase - didn’t install yet)
DDR3 8gb ram G Skill 8-8-8-24 timing
650wt psu

I would like to be able to play PUBG on ultra, and/or Battlefield 5 on high

I don’t think I will stream/ record my games, pure gaming only.

After I’ve purchased a new card ($200), I am left with another $200.
Should I upgrade my Ram or buy a new cpu. I am aware that i5 4430 is out of date and can barely run any modern games except CS:GO

What upgrades would you recommend for $200-$300?

Thanks in advance!

Probably the best thing you can look for would be an I7 4770 cpu on like ebay or something, wouldn't hurt to get another 8gb of ram if you can.

Spending 200 bucks on a 4-5 year old processor is completely ridiculous when new Ryzen chips at $100 would blow that 4770k out of the water.

You know, being on how your a moderator and have been a member since 2011 and all, I figured you would know by now AMD does not fit Intel sockets  unless your indirectly suggesting a probably more expensive than 200$ rebuild and switch to..... AMD (Gross)

Jumping right in with the personal attacks are we?

Obviously no they don't but it doesn't make economic sense to spend that much on an inferior product. Save another 100 bucks and you've got way more room and could do a whole platform upgrade with a better processor. I'd make do with the i5 and save. Buying 4 year old hardware at that price just doesn't make sense.

And lol. AMD is outselling Intel for a reason right now. Gross indeed.

Its because people have the false belief that AMD is better than Intel which is laughable. Even the Coffee Lake I5 8600k will destroy anything AMD has at the same or less power consumption and only 6 cores, when it comes to gaming.

All I gotta say about AMD's pricing is you get what you pay for.... So don't expect much.
Even the I5 9600k is rated best bang for your buck so far in 2019.

Ranting about your poor amd purchasing decision in the past has nothing to do with this thread.

A cpu upgrade would require a new board in the case of either vendor, and also new ram.

Would if he listened to you 2 for sure. He asked what is an upgrade suggestion for the gear he already has, not some asinine suggestion of switching to an inferior brand because its cheap. There's a reason they are cheap.

Ranting lmao. Anyway neither does an AMD processor suggestion but you know. I'm gonna let bygones be bygones.

Lol I'm not even gonna entertain your delusions.

He asked for advice and he got it, up to him to take it or leave it.

AMD is outselling Intel 2 to 1. This is because the performance gains of the 8600K/ 9600K over the competition just isn't worth the price. You're much better off purchasing the 8700K on the high end. Every review reflects this.

Even the I5 9600k is rated best bang for your buck so far in 2019.

What? No it hasn't. The 9600K has been heavily criticized.

The i5-8400 was the best bang for your buck until the 2600/ 2600X was released. Now AMD has the budget gaming market, Intel has the high end. The 8600K/ 9600K doesn't have a place in the current market.

The best option of the OP is to do a platform upgrade.

Yes there is.
Intel has been focused on high power cpu's specifically for gaming a lot longer than AMD.

AMD was focused on business tasks and just recently jumped in to the gaming market

Intel believes people will pay more for a better quality cpu from a company that has been doing it for decades over the "competition", that's why their pricing stays the same as its always been. They aren't wrong.

You may think they are over priced.

I think they have very good reason to be expensive.

Personally Id rather see someone build an expensive I9 or even step into the Xenon series and game for years with confidence upgrading minimally.

I built my wifes i7 years ago, and have yet to have to upgrade it still can play all games on ultra with no issues.

Even had a friend multibox 20 characters on warcraft reaching the limits of his gpu before reaching even 80% of his i7.

AMD has very big shoes to fill and a LONG way to go.

It'd be cool if you could objectively talk about your bias instead of generating propaganda. It's hilarious to me to see people passionately defend organizations that are only interested in profiting from them.

from a company that has been doing it for decades over the "competition"
Intel is literally like a year older than AMD.

I think they have very good reason to be expensive.
So you fully support in being on the disadvantageous side of profit margins. Got it.

AMD was focused on business tasks and just recently jumped in to the gaming market
20 years ago the Athlon was outbenching P3s in games, your statements are made up and have no historical significance.

that's why their pricing stays the same as its always been
What's your source on that? It's both made up but intentionally vague enough to not mean anything.

It's cool if you have an opinion, make your own thread, but derailing someone's build/upgrade advice thread with some squawking self-important bias is entirely unhelpful.

@Tokarev82 have you installed the 580 at this point? I'd see how it plays with the hardware you have before roadmapping some upgrades.

There are some people that just can't upgrade to a new machine, like me. I'm not an Intel person, but if I was to upgrade. I'd probably stick another 8 GB of ram into it.

But, like "Beers" said. Put in the video card and see how it runs, go with what you have first.

Last time I can't remember the last time I Intel processor. I have been with AMD a very long time. My current setup is in my signature. And it is 6 years old, and I have no trouble gaming with it.

You are clearly incredibly disconnected to how businesses work.

Or benchmarks for that matter.

Oh i see now.... its not about the cpu, its a problem with how you think intel should do business. I understand both your sides now.

And for sure, your machine. Hope it does well for you :)

Not really, just debunking your invalid claims. Financially we'd be in the same situation if the companies were inverted.

@Tokarev82 if you aren't scared off by people with overzealous opinions we're interested in helping.
