video card connecting and display

I have a ADM Radeon R7 250 series video card. It comes with a HDMI slot, but when I call my display device up, I don't see a audio icon on my control page display. I see headphones, high def speakers, but no HDMI device.
The reason for asking is that I want to connect a Fiber Optics HDMI cable from my computer tower, to my HD wide screen TV. But I'm hesitant on spending the $160+ for the cable if it won't be supported by the ADM video card.
I' am not very computer savvy here. So I apologize in advance for the lack of details.

Look under audio devices in control panel. You should see where it says AMD High Definition Audio device

Yes, I see that when I highlight DISPLAY ADAPTERS.
Now I'm going to make some assumptions, just taking what I see at face value:
1) because the I see ADM Radeon R7 250 , and the card comes with a HDMI slot, this HDMI slot works with an HDMI connection cable end that I plug in.
2) Although the HDMI icon doesn't show up on my audio devices display on my windows 10 control panel in the sound portion of the display, as does HD speakers, and head set, perhaps it's because I haven't plugged in a HDMI plug to the slot on the video card.

Am I going in the right direction here?

When you plug in an hdmi cable from video card to tv, the video card will recognize the connection. If you don't disconnect the connection to your monitor it should ask you if you want to mirror main display or extent it. Then if you want to hear sound on your tv then you need to go into sound setting and select amd high definition audio as the output.

johnb35,
You have no idea how helpful your response has been. Thanks a lot. I was told that because I'm using 50ft (I wish I didn't have to), the fiber graphic HDMI cable is the way to go. But I couldn't for the life of me find how the HDMI feature would work if I couldn't find the icon on my device display. This set up that I'm working with, is not ideal. But necessary for many reasons. I'm a baseball scout in my mid 70's and not comfortable using computers
Thanks again johnb35.
