currently i have 8gm ram on my pc. i want to get another 8gb stick of ram but want to know if getting 2 different brands and speed of ram will affect it in any way.

my current ram:

XPG adata ddr4 dimm ax4u240038g16-brz

my task manager says speed is 2400 MHz

i dont really think i can spare 100 bucks for another stick of 8gb ram atm. im wondering if i can use 2 different ram brands/speed together.

I wouldn't try it, you may run into issues with the system not booting if the speed and timings don't match up. It always best to use matching sticks. When you are doing the most ram intensive thing, check your ram usage in task manager to see how much you are using, If you aren't using at least 80 percent then there is no need to upgrade.

Just depends on what you're doing, if you're doing video editing with Sony Vegas & After Effects, or gaming 16GB of RAM would be fine. But, if you have 8GB of RAM and you only use your computer for Web Browsing/Email/Media/Office than 8GB is a bit buzzkill. I have 2 computers, one of them is a desktop from early 2009 that only has 3GB of RAM and it seems plenty sufficient for daily tasks. My laptop has 16GB of RAM but I use it for daily tasks and some games.
