WIndows 10 Transfering an exe file between laptops

Part of the work I am doing for my new laptop is transfering files to my new laptop from old.

I emailed an exe file, a cricket software program and uploaded to the downloads file.

I then attempted to run it but got the message "An administrator has blocked you from running this app. For more information contact the administrator."

My question is its my own new laptop so surely I am the administrator ? How can I get to use this so I can discard my old laptop and move on please ?

Have you tried right clicking on the file and click on run as admin? It's also possible the program has to be installed before you can run it correctly. Most EXE's can't run by themselves without supporting files to go with them.

Yes I did that get the same message.

I think most of the apps and programs are a lot more than just the .exe file. There is the windows registry. And then there are other appdata files. It is a lot complicated from those good old DOS days. The only way to assure it runs properly is to reinstall the program.

What does it say if you Rightclick on the exe-file and select: Properties..

Does it say something like: This file came from.. and there is a "tick-box" next to it??
If so Tick the box to UNBLOCK the exe-file, then you might be able to run the EXE...

But can you not use the Windows 10s built in "SHARED FOLDERS"

"Did you know that every Windows computer is equipped with “Shared folders”? Whatever you copy or save to these folders might be acessable from every other computer in your local network. So you don´t have to use google drive, USB-sticks, e-mail or other stuff like that to share files with others at home.. This section show you how to share your shared folders!

Open the file explorer, click on the “Quick acess”-text on top, so the text is marked, or erase the text inorder to replace it,
type: %Public% and hit enter. This is your computers “Public Folders” that other users/computers MAY access to fetch files etc.
In the left pane you will see the folder: “PUBLIC”, RIGHTclick on that, choose: Properties, and SHARING,
then select: ADVANCED SHARING, select YES,
Tick the “Share this folder”, In “Share name:” type ´Computername Public´ or whatever may identify your share to others.
Click: OK, Notice the “NETWORK PATH” this is the adress others use to access your shared files..

Note the “Password protection” bellow, If you like to give access to others on your private network without having to create accounts and passwords for everyone, click: Network and sharing center, expand the ALL NETWORKS profile,
Click on the: “Password-protected sharing”, select: “Turn OFF password-protected sharing”, then select: Save changes
select YES,

Anyone on your local network now has READ ACCESS to your shared folders. And even other people who logs on to your computer."

Would that not help you??
(And Yes! I got the OK from the guy whos "THE ULTIMATE WINDOWS 10 INSTALLATION-GUIDE" I copyed this text from.. if i mention the website where you may buy the guide from
(like I did to have an English Windows computer!) here it comes: http://windowsguides.eu )

Oh dear - Thank you The Real Swede - at my age what you suggest is very technical for an old bugger like me.

I tried %public% as you suggested however no file "PUBLIC" showed up ?

Most EXE files won't run just by themselves. If you had to install this program on the old pc then you will have to install it on the new pc. There is no way around it. Unless the exe is actually the installation file.

About the only things you can transfer between pc's is your personal data such pictures, music, documents, favorites, downloads.

As i wrote, the FOLDER: Public is shown in the LEFT pane.. That is where you rightclick on it and follows the instructions above

Thanks guys I have done all the suggestions including the SHARED FOLDERS mentioned by The Real Swede, sadly I just cannot get the exe file to load anyway. Very frustrating.

If the exe file was created by installing the program for which it runs then the program must be installed on new PC before the exe can run properly.

Exactly!
I think the exe-file you have may be a PART of an installation-package, where your exe-file might be only one of many files..
So you need to find the programs "Setup.exe" or "Install.exe" or something similar..
And then you RIGHTclick the new Exe-file and select: Run as Administrator..

I searched for "cricket software program" and found these:
https://www.bing.com/search?q=crick...s=n&sk=&cvid=3794d0f078dd471286902c6033ccca6d

Perhaps you may try a similar search to try to find the one you have, and see if there is a setup-program or if there is something wrong with your exe-file (corrupt or similar).

I think the issue here is the fact that you said you emailed the .exe. There are many anti-virus and email server type settings that block the ability to receive an .exe by mail due to the large risk of spreading trojans and viruses.

Try copying the .exe to a USB drive and then using that to transfer the file to your computer.

I did that, just will not work sadly.
