Which build to go with?

Hi people, computer newbie here, looking to build my own.

Wanna put together a PC for 3D modeling, rendering and animation. I'll be using Autodesk software. GUP rendering seems like the way to go. Also photo/video editing and some type of cartoon animation. Wanting to make my own cartoons.

Looking at two different startup builds put together for beginners.

Roughly $1,300
Or this roughly $1,500
Is it feasible to upgrade the AMD or should I just go with the Intel?

If you do all you want, you should get a second drive. 1 or 2 TB for storage. And if you go with AMD, chuck the cooler that comes with it and get a cooler master 212 Evo instead.

I'd go with the 1TB Intel 660p NVMe SSD. It's at $109 currently.

Dear God. My breaking point for SSD's was an NVME under $100 for 1TB. Better start saving.

This is very outdated advice, AMD's stock coolers are about on par with the 212. I've owned both. There's no reason for aftermarket cooling unless you really want to crank up the overclock. Even the stock cooler can handle a mild bump. Years ago you'd be right, but not anymore.

Thanks for all the replies. I was planning on pairing a 250 or 500GB SSD with a 4TB HDD. Keep the apps on the SSD and all the files on the HDD.

Or would a 1TB SSD serve me better?

Just a matter of if you want to spend it. Personally I'd go no smaller than 500, and preferably the 1TB.

I would take $110 intel 660p over $100 512GB SX8200pro
You prepared to spend $150 on SSD initially anyway...

Question

If I used a 1TB for my primary, would I still set it up the same way?

I was planning on pairing the SSD and HHD. If remember correctly, I set up everything so that the system writes on the SSD and all the file storage goes straight to a 4TB HDD. I have no problem getting the Intel 1TB or any other. But for file storage, I'll need more than 1TB. So I was going to gradually stack HDD drive in the extra slote.

Got my education from YouTube, so if I'm not making sense, please correct me.

Yeah you'll install Windows and any programs on the SSD, and the HDD can be used for general storage.

Not sure if you'll be using Windows 10, but for me it was finicky about having multiple drives installed. I couldn't install Windows until I removed all other hard drives except for the SSD. After installation I added the other drives.

You'll still want to pay attention to where things are being installed, they won't just automatically go to one drive or another. I'd do as above, install with just SSD connected then add the rest.

To update you guys, I've ordered the fraction S tower and an Intel 1TB M2 SSD. I believe it mounts on to the motherboard. Coming in tomorrow.

Question. The RAM slots, is that 4 I'm looking at? Am I supposed to use the first two, one grey and one black? Or does one ram stick mount on each making it only 2 slots?
