Between a desktop and a laptop computer, which is more durable, heavy duty, cost efficient, ect… in the long run? Im not sure which one to buy because I look at it as an investment but for the long run. which one should I go with then? My gut is telling me to buy a desktop but the rest of me is saying otherwise i.e. laptop what do you guys think? rsvp.

In my opinion, you can't carry a desktop anywhere you want to go. But, a laptop hasn't got the expandability and power of a desktop. With a laptop, you have to be a little more protective of it, because most laptop still has mechanical drives in them. And they are easier to steal than a desktop. If you are to get a laptop, try to get one with an SSD in it instead of the mechanical drive.

Desktop, but build your own if you can. Saves you money and easier to work on/replace things if need be.

Hands down a desktop. A laptop's design must make various compromises in order to keep it portable and affordable. With a desktop, especially one you build yourself, all the components are replaceable and can be upgraded. With the typical laptop, almost no parts can be upgraded (usually only the storage and the memory) and replacing parts is expensive since they are almost all proprietary.

Depends what do you use it for.
If you just use it for surfing web or general office work, the best value way is grab a used business PC from ebay.

From owning 6 or 7 laptops, they all did fine with heavy use, until a virus hit a couple of them. I used laptops as desktops with big monitors and have had no problems. When I wore out the printing on their keyboards I used wireless keyboards on the laptops. So I've used them extensively. 2 of my laptops are Win 7, so that is how old they have lasted. I still have an ancient ThinkPad from the 1990s that would run. But too ancient now.

I've switched to desktops due to the cheap laptops they are making nowadays. Desktops can be rebuilt easier. And you get more bang for your buck with desktops.
