So I've been using many versions of Diskeeper over the years, and while it served me well, I notice that it needs reinstalling every now and then because automatic defragmentation just stops happening past a certain point. So I wondered what disk defragmenter you consider the best and has served you well over a long period of time. Can be free or paid, bonus points if you recommend a free one though.

I've used "Defraggler" for a very long time, the free version. https://www.ccleaner.com/defraggler but now since I have just SSD's on the computer. I just use the windows optimizer to trim the drives.

I too use Defraggler sometimes, it's good. Had no problems with it, but I'd rather have a program that runs in the background and automatically defrags when it needs to.
Pretty sure it runs automatically since at least 8, if not 7, so decent chance they are already.
I would like a program that defragments round the clock, not just a scheduled defragmentation somewhere in the week/month in bulk that takes a lot of time to complete.

Looks like you already have it:
Defragging does very little for performance anymore and definitely doesn't need to be "round the clock". Unless you're manually manipulating files, deleting, moving them, whatever constantly then it's not necessary. I haven't touched a defrag software on a personal computer since XP.
