When a person buys a new smartphone, is it possible to transfer all information and data, such as stored phone numbers and apps to their new phone ? If it has to be done all manually then that would be a reason to keep ones old phone and not trade it in ?

If you have an android phone then thats the whole purpose of the gmail account. Your contacts and installed apps will transfer to the new phone. If you want pictures, texts saved then you'll have to use a third party program. If you store pictures on the SD card then just put it in the new phone but if they are stored on the phone, then contact your closest store to see what can and can't be copied over to the new phone. I'm pretty sure Iphone will transfer everything over too. My daughter got a new Iphone a couple months ago and i believe they did it for her. Best to contact where you buy your phone from.

Your Google accoount will sync pretty much everything. Can check in sync settings too .

Last couple phones I've had I didn't even really think about transferring stuff, just on initial setup it pulled all the stuff through. Texts, apps, all of it. Also depends on your carrier and upgrade process, like if you have both phones at the same time or need to turn one in for the other.

But do you sign in to your phone with the same gmail-account??

If so, all you need to do is to sign on to your new phone with the same google-account and in short everything will be synchronized..
