Laptop doesn't recognize DVD via USB

I have a DVD connected to the HP8470p via a USB/Sata adapter cable.

The computer doesn't recognize the DVD.

I had it thru the same set up a few months ago when I used it to watch DVD. It worked. I had it removed for a while because I didn't need it anymore.

I just plugged it back in but the computer don't recognize it.

Any suggestion?

In Device Manager, under DVD/CD-Rom, it shows my virtual CloneDrive (a software that reads iso file). Nothing for the physical DVD connected via USB/SATA.

When I plugged the DVD into the USB, the signal light in the adapter lite up and the drive spinned a little while.

Uninstall the the virtual software and reboot. A lot of times that type of software will play havoc with dvd drives getting recognized since it plays with registry settings.

I uninstalled the Virtual Clone software. Rebooted. And plugged the physical DVD in. But it didn't recognize it.

Any entries in device manager that say unknown device or any with yellow error marks? What about disk management? It will still show dvd drives.

No. No yellow exclamation in Device Manager. It doesn't show in Disk Management neither.
