quick question

If I reset my dell inspiron i7 pentium / win 10 will the driver run a remote dispay during the process? So I can set it up and reinstall windows?

I encountered corruption, but wont go in to too many details.

my kid brother made the lappy fall on a hardwood floor that broke the LCD. I cant afford a new display. which was ok/is fine, it stays on my desk full time connected to a better Benq display. I really don't want to buy a replacement if I can avoid it.

please help with my question so I can get started.

I have a suspicious feeling it won't work. But I hope I'm wrong ;/

thanks for looking in. Any help is very appreciated.

Are you 100 percent positive?

Two things have me a little skeptical still. But maybe some things changed with updates in windows.

With my 2014 or 15 Acer, I had to go in settings to manually click " activate second external monitor".

Also as I was setting up my newer Dell for factory reset procedure, the blue screen in advanced options displayed until clicking on to the final (or second last before final option click) to begin reset.

Thats where I lost the remote monitor.

I couldnt back out so I had to hard restart.

Fearing Id be SOL after windows completed the uninstallation. As starting the second part wouldnt be possible with a display obvi.

Hopefully I missed something. Because I was trying to trouble shoot just prior to my decision to reset. I know I lost the display signal at one point. Maybe when attempting to enter safe mode, or other mode.

However at the time I felt pretty certain of my actions. Its been a few days, its not as fresh.

Ill go to boot up and give it another go. Be back soon to report results.

I really need this thing ;(. Fingers crossed.

Thanks.

Attempt two, the same result.

choose option...
troubleshoot click

advaned options click..

My bad? Entering AO resultted in no signal to remote screen.

I guess that made me suspicious.

Im in on blue screen *reset this PC* in real time, and to be sure.

Both reset options choices state *removes settings*

Back to square one. Ill be patient for now.

If I go ahead and start the uninstallation and must leave it in limbo for a while that means powering it off. So thats concerning.

Hopfully someone can shed more light on this.

It wouldnt even boot up properly today. Reset pending.

Thanks x2

I've never had to activate an external monitor when testing a laptop with a cracked screen. However, odd things can and will happen. Replacing the screen doesn't cost that much.

Its ok, I have days like those too sometimes. For them Ill refrain from sarcasm when I mention finances again too haha ;)

Im laughing with not at.

Thanks for trying to help, for real.
cheers.

I was not unsure. Something was just not done correctly, or it did not work as expected. Don't blame me for that.
Agreed. Literally done this dozens of times and even without a video driver (like within the BIOS) it'll work on the second screen.

Weird. I was being extra extra careful during my second attempt.

Originally, with my limited knowledge of windows and (tech terms). I was under an impression that opening the process puts the os in to a bare bones mode of operation.

With just enough left running to perform the process. Since it will be in a sense dismantling everything else brick by brick. One of those bricks containing drives needed to run the second display.

Ive installed/ reinstalled a few versions of windows at least a dozen times, including 10 thrice. I also upgraded from 8 to current from usb last weekend. Im limited but not exactly green :(

Ok, its strange now that you confirmed it should work. Now I'm kinda suspecting something else. I was temperarily using a year old LG smart LCD tv on both attempts.

I dont know why/if that might make any difference. My answer is no it shouldn't. But, something is definately amiss. I know I followed appropriate steps try 2.

Suspecting tv. more for not knowing what else to shoot at.

Never never encountered an obsticle such as this. But then this isnt exacty a common request Im sure. Im probably the only one to ever seek help with it
