New build

The itch is hitting me again, my perfectly fine 3 year old computer may be getting a tear down and rebuild.

I am leaning towards the following:

i9-9900KS with an appropriate air cooler (I've always had a fear of liquid cooling)

Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Elite ATX board

Corsair Dominator Platinum 32 GB RAM - 3466 or 3200 speed (anything faster seems to cost an arm and a leg)

I might find a new case but would reuse my 750+ PSU, my Samsung SSD, and my 1080ti. Any thoughts on the above? Is there something new coming around the corner that I should wait for?

As far as I know, the i9-9900KS is the best gaming chip available right now.

The only thing that has a potential to be "better" is the i9-10900X but I believe it's more workstation-based (correct me if I'm wrong).

Put your potential upgrades in a PCPartPicker list along with the Dark Rock Pro CPU cooler. Solid option for quiet, cool, high-TDP chips.

Thanks for the advice on the cooler! Was looking for an upgrade over the reliable coolermaster hyper 212;

any advice on a bullet-proof MB?

Honestly it's hit or miss. I have a MSI A88XM board from 2014 that's still kicking it as a backup.. I'm sure I've exposed it to static a couple times and it still works!

My MSI Z170 board I had in my current rig only lasted 3 years, but that's likely due to the increased voltage I pushed for my overclock and the fact that the heat spreaders were tiny.

I've heard great things about ASUS boards, and I had no complaints in the time I had my Gigabyte mobo for my FX-8320 build from 2015-2016 :D
