I need a Sata to USB3 converter that works well with optical drives.

I am going to build a pc in the near future, and the case I will be using has no optical drive slot. I still use my blu ray drive for burning blu ray home movies, and will be using it to back up my data to m-disk, when I one day get around to that.

There are no Sata cables long enough to allow me to put the drive on the desk, so I will need a Sata to USB converter. I have tried one from amazon already, and it only works with hard drives. I also had another one from ebay that worked until the 12v transformer exploded! So can anyone recommend a good SATA to USB3.0 converter that I could use to allow me to mount the drive as an external drive instead?

Would second just getting an actual external blu ray burner. The bus is fast enough, and it's cleaner externally than having to chain a bunch of crap together. Plus you could save a bit of desk space as they typically use laptop form factors.

I don't really want to buy another one because those drives are expensive, and because I chose the drive that I did for a specific set of reasons (one of them being M-disk support). Also the dedicated external drives are double the price of my internal one. I might just rig up my own system by chaining SATA cables together or try again with another usb3.0 converter.
