So like a year ago my PC started taking me to a black screen saying "press F1 to run setup/F2 to restore desfult values", whatever I pressed it took me to desktop or bios then desktop. It started doing it more and more often, then always, and then it would turn on just the graphic card and fans (I mean no lights on mouse, keyboard and monitor). But funny thing is that if I turn off and on the PC like a hundred times it eventualy works and takes me to that "press F1/F2" screen. Sometimes if I just let it on for like 10 hours, it will turn on the monitor by itself and take me to that screen too.

So now I can not turn off my PC or it will be hell again. Once I manage to go to desktop, It works perfectly though, including gaming and such.

I tried changing battery and holding power button but didnt work.

Never did an overclock but the motherboard is already +10 years old.

What on Earth might be happening? Is the motherboard simply dying?

Thank u so much in advance.

An issue like this is gonna be hard to track down. About the only thing you can do is start replacing parts. However, if its over 10 years old it's time to replace whole machine. It could be a loose connection, bad power supply, motherboard, ram. Also could be motherboard is shorting out against the case somewhere. Is this a store bought pc or custom built one? If it was me, I would tear it all apart and clean everything. Look at the motherboard, make sure there are no buldging or leaking capacitors. If you have access to spare parts like power supply and ram, those are the easiest to do. Also disconnect anything not needed to bootup. Disconnect all usb devices, cd drives, hard drives, only have 1 stick of ram installed. Turn pc on and see if you get the no operating system found or something similar error message. Start adding back devices until it starts freezing, etc.

If you don't have any knowledge of repair then you would be better off taking it to a cheap repair place.

Thank you. For what you are telling me, it seems way over my capacities to fix it by myself I will contact a technician and see how it goes.
