Hi everyone,

As you can see I'm new here, and I hope my question is in the right topic area.

Since I cannot afford a DVD recorder for my television, I would like to know how I can transfer television shows to my computer DVD burner.

Here's the low down:

1) I have cable TV.
2) I want to record the images/shows on DVD's through my computers DVD burner.
3) I want to be able to watch these images recorded on my computer on my television.

Can any of you guys help me out?

Thanks much,
--Dave

The quickest and easiest option is to buy a tv card and connect the cable directly to your computer.

Thanks for your help

Will I get the same movie quality picture from a show recorded on my computer when I'm watching it on my TV?

Btw, how much are these cards?

If you intend to record from cable and playback on a TV-set, you'll need a VIVO (video-in, video-out) video card. I think the best solution is an ATI all-in-wonder, which has a built in tv-tuner too: http://shop.ati.com/product.asp?sku=2484683. If you'll buy a VIVO only card (without tv-tuner) you must use the TV-set's video out for recording.
The picture quality is a bit lower on TV-out, but the difference is not noticeable. I watch DVD-s the same way and I'm satisfied with it.

he doesn't need a video out on the card, he just needs video in so he can record the shows on to a dvd using the burner, then he can just pop in the dvd to his dvd player on the tv so a simple tv tuner card will do, and theres all kinds of software out there for you, just google for PVR (personal vidoe recorder) but if you do have the money go with the ATI all-in-wonder because it is nice, good luck :)
