hey peeps.

I just wanted to know somethng, i have a cdrw/dvd combo drive and it was woking properly, now all of a sudden windows xp doesn't recognize it now, the green light just stays on all the time, i checked all the jumpers cables etc

I tried everything i even upgraded the aspi layer and then it started working again so i created a sytem restore and when i restart my computer the problem is back to how it was, i also have a standard cd-rom drive in the secondary select to use to copy cds which is working fine...

Does anyone know what the cause of this is?

Thanks for replyiing

I have the same problem too with the DVD/CD-RW combo drive on my laptop. It worked properly just a year ago, and now it only plays 1 out of 100 CDs, and no DVDs. Please help, someone!!!

Hey V

Yeh its a very frustrating and confusing part of computing, and the sad thing is i rebuild computers & didn't realize what the problem was, but finally i got it working, i donwloaded the latest aspi layers you can download here for free http://www.clonecd.net/aspi.htm and !!!make sure!!! you back up your computer system files through system restore or any other backup method.

If that doesn't work you can go to windows update website and download the latest updates OR you can go to my favorite and more trusted site, www.drvierguide.com for any driver. And if you use roxio make sure you go to the home site and update to the latest viersion with direct cd support

If you downloaded the aspi layers and rebooted and it works let me know aight bud...Here to help cause i know how frustrating it gets. Just Let me know what happens...

Take Care

now does that work for all laptop and CDRWs, or just certain ones? i got a toshiba satellite 5105-5501 with a MATSHITA UJDA 730 DVD/CDRW combo Drive.
This was going on for like half a year, and i looked in some other forums that alot of ppl have the same problem.

Yeh it should

Yeh the aspi layers work for all computers.....For some reason cdrws drives are causeing lots of problems with computers as to not being recognized correctly or recording correctly, i have a combo cdrw/dvd drive, my cd manufacturer is phillips, which now has a suit against it for faulty devices, and they manufacture to hp dell, sony etc.

Download these aspi layers first http://www.clonecd.net/aspi.htm
cause you might just need a update and then if not then you go to www.driverguide.com and find your driver, But yeh the drivers should work for a laptop since it is integrated, go to driverguide.com and type in the maker or description of your cd player......

You dont have to use and account just use "temp" as the username and "512" as the password. I will go check to see if they are any current drivers from the information you just gave me aight...

Take care
