choosing an operating system- any advice?

I'm planning to get a laptop but am unsure what operating system I should use. I use Windows (currently XP) and I sort of understand it but not very well. I'm told that Windows is satan and Macs don't crash as much but I'm not sure I could learn to use a Mac (I've never tried). I have a linux computer that I've yet to figure out how to do basic functions on despite my computer-genius friend's insistance that I would "just figure it out along the way." I'm hoping to get some opinions from computer-literate people who understand that some of us just don't and won't 'figure it out' unless its idiot-proof. So basically- should I install Windows or Mac or something else entirely?

It's not BEST to go with windows it's just EASIEST. Big difference.

Go with OS X or Windows. Both are easy enough to learn.

I find Linux BEST but not EASIEST. Windows is EASIEST (When it works).

Windows is very easy and there are very little compatibilty problems, Linux is alot harder as command line is greatly used. If you've have had expierence with Windows, stay with that. If your up for a bit of a challange, go with Linux.

Hope that helps, Rowan.
