Dual Core issues with games?

I saw some reviews of dual core processors for amd and it mentions that some games are not compatible. is this issue specific with brand? like the games won't work on amd dual core but it will on intel? or just doesn't work on any dual core?

yea, it just doesn't necessarily need the processing power that dual core provides... so theyre saying that depending on the games you plan on playing you might just want to go with single core. i play quake 4 though so i prefer dual core :)

games of the future and new games will be using dual-core right?
not necessarily. some games will be more ram intensive, or video card intensive. for the most part though, dual core simply won't slow down... its the best choice if you ask me.

Also, even if your game only uses one core, one can do the game and the other background tasks

well you can do that with any processor it will just take a serious toll on gameplay.

which is why you would want dual core :)
but if you're only gaming in a game that uses a single core (and you aren't doing background tasks), then you can buy something with more cache and a higher frequency which will ultimately perform better in the game anyways.
personally i o/ced my proc so i basically got a 4600+ which is about as fast as a single core 3800+ when only utilizing a single core (which is damn good for the money). :D

i mean really, i can pretty much burn a dvd run a virus scan and play quake 4 without much slowdown at all... only thing is my RAM is kind of small for dual core, but im gonna get more soon (im gettin a raise + more hours since im gonna be a cook instead of a dishwasher soon lol)

There are some issues. Sometimes you will get jerky gameplay on older games. It'll seem like the frames are moving too fast and frames are being skipped. But you can always set the afanity to single core to stop that.

i have a couple of games that can't run dual core (Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Vietnam and Medal of Honor Allied Assault) the one game that does work with dual core is Call of Duty. this is what games i have.

notice he said can't run dual core... not can't run with a dual core... meaning there's still an extra core free while playing the game (for whatever you like, say... burn a dvd, or run a virus scan... multitasking)
