Opteron vs. Athlon

I am going to build another computer for gaming and have a question or two about processors.
I am thinking about using the Opteron 250 or the Athlon 64 4000 single core.
Is there any benefit in gaming applications of one cpu over the other?
I will probably o/c.
I will be using OCZ Gold 2x512.
Mobo is still being researched but am leaning toward the MSI or Abit, no Asus!!
Thanks all.

I assum you made a mistake and meant the 150 show here. No there is no difference between the two other than the Opterons tend to overclock a little higher. For 10 dollars less you could get the Opteron 165, which is dual core and much more future proof.

The 250 is correct but I think the same price for a 165 is much better.
I have found out that the 165 will o/c to fx57 specs for a lot less.

Yes but the 250 takes socket 940, which is a whole different ball game. This is why i assumed you meant the 150 which is the same processor for socket 939.

i oc'ed from 1.8Ghz to 2.5Ghz with stock voltage...

i got all the way up to 2.7Ghz unstable to play games.

lol unstable... that's not good... what games u playin cs source (you know, the only one it'll play under stable conditions) lol
its gonna restart RIGHT after u beat a game (say, quake 4?) and you'll have to start from the beginning lol and im gonna laugh :)
not really. that would be sad.

if it were at 2.8ghz, it would actually be ALOT better than the fx-57. DUAL CORE HELLLOOOOO.
lol opteron's are good chips, and the 165 is a really good processor for the price. :)
