I turned off my computer to rewire some wires for a cleaner setup and I added a 512 stick of ram. When I booted my computer back up I would get the windows load screen and it wouldnt load after restarting twice I managed to get into windows but svchost.exe was using 100% of my cpu. I restarted again and it still happened. I have no idea why this happened or how to fix it so all suggestions help. Also the ram I put in was ddr and the ram that was in first was ddr2, if this makes a difference.

Well to narow it down....Put your old RAM back in and see if it does the same thing. If not, then run MEMTEST+ To test your new ram and make sure there are no errors.

Just a heads up...there are viruses out there that will cause this. Also a memory leak will cause CPU usage to stay at 100%. Firefox has memory leak issues (and still does just to a lesser degree now).

Not saying thats your problem but a heads up for you. Search "svchost.exe+100% CPU usage" and I bet you will find answers. I believe I found my answers that way about the Firefox issue a while back.

the old ram is still in there i just added another stick. i know the ram is good because i had pulled it out of my old computer which ran fine. I dont use firefox and I ran many virus scans with no viruses detected. could it have anything to to with campatibility between the pc4300 and the pc6400?
