Dual monitors?

How do you actually do this? The last thread I made about this was full of shit, and I never really got an answer. Thanks.

Hopefully I missed that one! With a dual monitor setup you first have to have a video card that supports this. ATI cards have an easy multimonitor configuration utility in the desktop for extending a desktop. There are also some softwares for cloning a desktop so you can configure one differently.

For video card support some models don't rely just on having an S-Video out for the additional monitor. But the cards with dual vga outputs can run into some big money depending on where you find them. For a Sapphire Radeon X850 you wll find a better price at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102688&ATT=14-102-688&CMP=OTC-B1zrat3

Another method for simply cloning a desktop without software would be the use of a "Y" type vga adapter. But you also need a card that will support that this depending on how you will be using it. Gaming pulls a lot on resources.

To simplify what PC just said..incase you're too lazy to read it all :p

You need a video card with dual vga or DVI outputs.

Another question that will be the most important here is for what type of system? Laptop or desktop? Laptops will often lack the support for this unless a good model video card is already installed. For basic display for a second identical desktop you can usually get by with a Y type vga output.

For gaming and other demanding visual apps and media players the higher end card for a portable unit would be needed there. For extending the desktop you need the software support.

is it possible to triple monitor using a graphic card with a vga,dvi port and an onboard graphics card?

Yes,and No. Yes if your graphics card has two vga/dvi and is PCI-E or PCI. If your graphics card is AGP then No, cause onboard is also AGP and you can only use one at a time.

(you could also do it with 3 different PCI cards. ;) , even 4 or 5 or 6 monitors for that matter)

But you can run two monitors on an AGP model card with the correct setup. S-video and dvi have been available to dual monitor setups for some time now. PCI and AGP? Got a way to trick the bios?

One place that packs a good number of dual vga AGP model cards(for high prices) is seen at http://www.superwarehouse.com/Dual_Monitor_Video_Cards/c3/1884

The nvidia and ati drivers offers ok support for mutliple monitors (assuming your GPU can physically support 2 monitors). There is a unimon program, which provides MANY more options. I only installed it yesterday, and was too lazy to fiddle with it. But, so far, I am impressed with it.

How about using a laptop as a second cloned desktop? http://www.maxivista.com/ Apparently they are now having a 30% off sale for the program that configures a cloned desktop by way of a network connection rather then running two monitors off of one video card.

You need one monitor with an analogue input (blue end), and another monitor with a DVI input (not blue). Then plug both in.

Then...
Right-click desktop > Properties > 'Settings' tab > Advanced > G'eForce 6600 GT' tab.

It's one of the options on the left-hand side, near top. Can't remember which one, as I currently only have 1 monitor.

It'll show the 2 monitors as blue boxes, side by side, on a black background, and there'll be a drop-down list. I think you choose the very bottom setting. Tell me what it is so I know if it IS the one you should be selecting.

With what kinda cord? And I don't see anything about dual monitors under that tab.

My brother's getting me another monitor today, so I can do pretty screenshots for you when I get home.

This is a pic of a 6600GT. The blue output is analogue, and the white output is DVI.

you cant run an off board and an onboard card at the same time i think (it would be a mess driver wise i think)
however, there are devices you can put between the cables of 2 monitors, and make a 3 wcreen setup with that data. ( note: its not a splitter)
when im at home.. ill look up the name for it.. but there are at least 3 games that support it ( WoW, MS FS2004 and Quake 4), you get an extra big viewing angle in game with that

Well can anyone tell me if I can do it? My card is a Evga e-GeForce 6600GT.

It's simply astounding how one person can say so much to pretend like they actually know what they are talking about, yet not answer the question and say sweet *%&$ all at the same time. I've never seen anything like it.

To answer your question. Yes, your card will do it. It should have come with the DVI adapter in case your second monitor is not DVI.
