I want to connect more hard drives to my computer but I've got no idea how. I've got 2 ide cables, both with two inputs, I've got 2 cd/dvd drives/burners on one, and 2 hardrives on the other, is there a way to maybe split the cables or something to be able to install more hard drives on the cables. thanks for any help. later then.

You can only have two drives per IDE channel. However, you could do something like purchase an SATA or another IDE controller.

For adding drives when the cables are already in use you have three choices. The first and second both will depend on what the board supports. RAID is the use of a controller card added into one of the pci slots for adding additional ide drives. The second is the SATA or Serial ATA type drive using a smaller round cable. The third uses an external usb adapter to connect a standard ide drive through a port. There are also external drives that are intended strictly for plugging into a usb port.

If you have a SATA capable board you can keep the two additional drives internal. With the RAID array you will need to add a controller card into a pci slot for the additional drives there. Eventually if I don't build any case in the meantime I'll be adding a SATA array here to use for storage. It gets too cramped when the second drive is split for multibooting OSs. :p
