damnn, soo what would be the GHZ 4 a quad core? lol, like 7GHZ? ahaa..
Are you serious?

You really expect the quad cores to be a higher clock speed, considering that the QX6700 already dissipates 130W of thermal power at 2.66GHz?

The Core Duo has 2 CPU's, not 1 CPU acting like 2.

I think he means what amount of Ghz would you need to have to compare with AMD's 4x4, in order to find similar performance... Which, in turn, is a ridiculous question to ask in the first place...

The new P4 line has 1 core, but acts like 2 with the HT.

No, it's 2.66Ghz for 4 cores, you don't add them up.

thought it was 2 cores...soo your sayin the core duo is better than quad core?
The Core 2 Duo has two cores on one CPU, which is basically two processors in one. The Core 2 Quad has two Core 2 Duo dies on it.

The idea behind multiple cores is to replace the need for multiple cpus in order to multi-task. Server cases in general will see multiple cpus. As one cpu takes a load the other one or more takes a break. The AMD Quad is intended to upgrade server boards not gaming boards for the most part. Multitasking is the main idea there.

i think intel is just toying with the rich-no brainer computer loving people. i mean for some reason they always think that if you have a bigger number it is always better.....

A single core can multitask just fine, it did all the time up until dual cores were put into desktop machines. Multiple cores are all the rage now because we've gotten to the end of increasing clockspeed to gain performance. The next logical step was to increase parallel processing which is what multicore does.

so

does ghz not matter anymore i mean does this mean we hit the peak of the ghz mattering to us we are at the peak of that and does that mean that from now on its gonna be dual cores and quad cores all the way up the latter of cpu technology?

does this mean we will never see a computer with 6ghz or 7 ghz

It's hard to say. Most likely you won't see speeds that high with the Core architecture, but who knows, maybe another processor will come out and sky rocket clock speeds again, similar to when the P4 came out.

AMD proved that wrong when the 2.2ghz Atholons kick tails off of the P4 3.4ghz models performance wise.

I multitask here with the AMD64 3500+ all the time. A dual core model would certainly help with the loads I run on this machine however. I wouldn't see things bog down as much at times especially with a quad core! :D

We are not quite out of the clock speed race yet. But there's only so far you can go with the current hardwares at this time. You also have to have the OSs to keep up with the hardware advances.

Well, to start, these benchmarks are revealing the the Q6600 is far better than the FX-62, but how can 4 cores not beat a E6700, that impresses me. You see, I thought they would push more in the speeds. I'll upgrade to a Pentium D 9xx 800FSB soon enough, to get a cheap dual core, then I'll move to 4 cores. Although, Intel should deliver drivers for Windows XP and vista for the 4 core usage. And this time, they should make sure that it's not only intel chipset users that will benefit from it.
