Anything over 30 for racing games, other games I can handle 25 or so. I value image quality over FPS, as long as the framerates are acceptable.

My games always seem to get a bit laggy around 30 fps, I know you can't see that many fps anyway, but it just doesn't play as smooth, so I went with 40.

If it was constant 30 then you wouldn't notice, but it does dip down below 30 and gets up to 40+ but it happens so fast that your FPS program gets the average and displays it as 30.

Well, your eye can't see past 24FPS so I would say 30FPS.

Thats partly true, movies can get away using ~30fps with NTSC because they blend each frame together. With computer games, each picture is a still frame, so it requires more frames per second or else it will appear laggy.

And some people may think theres no difference with 35 and 55, but a good way to test that is use fraps. Say you play Flatout 2 which stays at a constant 60fps, you record video with fraps and it drop to around 30-40fps, you can very easily notice how the game lags, and once it stops recording and goes back to 60, it looks great.

Some games are different though, like Halo, however it remains at a constant 30fps so you dont notice the lag.

i limit mine to 75fps... if it goes over 100fps the game goes too fast and my brain cant keep up. seriously i had halo at like 200fps and it goes so fast its not even cool...

um the game itself actually doesnt speed up at all once you are out of the 30's. all it does is it add even more frames and plays them faster so instead of / / / / / / / / / you get ///////////////////////////// more frames in the same amount of time. :0

In simpler terms, More Frames Per Second :p

As long as the game runs smoothly, I don't care what FPS it's running at. Well, I say that...I don't mean like a constant 5FPS... A constant 25FPS would be fine, as long as there are no spikes or anything.

Its funny, I was playing WoW on my computer today (my old one) and i never noticed any lag. I installed Atitool today and when I played wow, i noticed the FPS was about 20 and I got iratated because I thought atitool was hindering the performance. I uninstalled it but still got the same performance. But then i realized, the performance was exactly the same, just now that there is a number in the corner saying i am lagging, so i try and notice the lag.

I don't really agree on that. Im pretty sure about everyone could tell you the difference weither a game runs on 30fps or on 60 fps. Both may run smooth,.. but the 60 fps cause the whoa effect =]

that was on the C2D pc you have now? well... i would suspect the CPU beeing the cause of that.. since Halo wasnt build for dual core pc's.
the newest patch fixed that. ( or you set the affinity to 1 core for that application, then it should run normal again.)

as for lovely: I noticed 2 posts of you in this threat wich wern't so nice tbh. I'm not looking for trouble or so,..but could you just dont post something like that? since it could be seen as insulting.
