Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike: Source are completely different games that use two different game engines, so, no, you can't. As for updating the original CS, try looking at download.com, or go directly to Sierra's website, they might have it there as well.

Ya, exactly what he said, just remember if I am not mistaken CS 1.4 is pre steam counter strike so you are going to have to look for a download elsewhere to get the original 1.6 then its just a matter of installing. But ya if you want css you are going to have to purchase either HL2 of the css game itself.

Now that others have pointed out how to get your update (for CS), I'll mention that you should get HL2 (which will also give you Counter Strike: Source). It is a great game and is the only way you'll get CSS.

Well since I did already mention that, you can buy CSS on its own which will save you some money if you don't want HL2, its cheapest to download CSS from steam and just pay online for it, I believe its like $20 in their online store.

If you've got the computer to run it, it is worth the $20 or whatever bball4life said it is. It's the most fun I've had in awhile. Not many online games and compete with the awesomeness it provides...

Well I only borrow good advice :p, it is of no use borrowing bad advice.

But I do not want to take this post off topic. Although it seems the questions has been answered.
