Good 56k dial up ISP

The only dialup service that offers some ten hours free service monthly is Netzero. But you still have to download their installer to setup the free account. The main problem there is the load of adware crap that will get on your system. On one occasion the unchecked option to disable *70 call waiting wouldn't disconnect the logon right when an emergency call was coming in. NO MORE Netzero afterwards! A little file found and removed had kept the connection from disconnecting! One little Netzero slick trick there!

My family uses AllVantage, and are quite happy with it, have had it with about a year and a half. Plus it's only $6.95 a month. :D

Then it all depends on the availabilty in the area you live. With Netzero at the time that was tried out there were some 5 or 6 six local numbers. You simply set the one that would get you on as default as well as the autoscroll to the next after a set period of time. That's advertized at $9.99 a month.

I dont know how other Isp's are, but we had netzero (before comcast) and it was baaad. The slow part is kind of obvious because its dial-up but it kept disconnecting every 2 or so hours (some people even more often), yea and the adware. There should be something better than this

I often see ads about SBC but I couldn't tell if they offer dialup. Their boast about having low dsl prices. I am surprised to hear about the disconnecting being seen with Netzero. But you were obviously running the full deal there otherwise the "slippery little bug" would have found it's way to you! :p

The file was so small you wouldn't see any difference in hard drive space once you delete it. At the time that was with a 13gb drive. It would have never been found by simply browsing through folders on the 250gb drives now used most likely. AOL and others offer free trial periods but the obvious disks sent in the mail make better frisbies! fling! sees them find the nearest recycle bin! :D

There are a variety of ISPs available to choose from depending on where you are located. But most will have some type of program involved when going with dialup. You use their software to some degree to connect. The method of connecting by way of dsl or cable requires a router where the host pc needs the software for that. For the other systems connecting through generally only need the set of hardware drivers.

That's a good one! The regions are catagorized with the listings and type of connection in alphabetical order. The type of connection will of course depend on your budget. The dsl service here is just under $80 monthly plus the intial installation costs! SBC and others now advertize at $29.95 or some approximate price. Another reason for the above average here is the network type setup instead of direct connect by a single system.

PC eye, do you ever read your own posts? they're impossible to read!

there's no point in using "you simply set" "the only dial-up service that offers some ten free hours," especially on top of WHOPPER run-ons already, such as "With Netzero at the time that was tried out there were some 5 or 6 six local numbers."

I understand you're trying to make your posts sound super smart, and everything, but they're honestly a terrible read. There's really no reason to use quite so many connecting words on a forum, this isn't a term paper.
