This can be interesting.....

How many of you computer techies actualy know how to type?

And by typing I mean you can type without looking at the keyboard.....

The fat brown cow jumped over the little fence and the dog followed his footsteps, yup it works fine:)

I'm definetly not as fast typing when I don't look...but I can type. And I have to go back occasionally and fix small errors.

If I look at the keys I don't even need to look at the screen and I can tell when I've missed a key. So it works both ways haha

when i was 18 i almost worked for AT&T supporting their @Home service. I had to take a typing test, and I also took another typing test for other computer related jobs. I remember I typed around 90 wpm with 95% accuracy.

I never look at the keyboard, and in fact many times I can hold a conversation with someone and not even look at the monitor and type at the same time. Of course, I type all my paperwork on a keyboard for a living so day in and day out I am using a keyboard.

tip on how to write faster.:
try to write "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog"
it makes your type faster. because it has got all the englsih alphabets.

Voted yes but its quicker for me to type while looking.

BTW is there any free program that lets you test how fast you can type?

sort of...if I dont think about typing I can do it without looking at the keyboard but right now im glancing down because looking at this thread made me think about typing. I learned by looking and eventually I just figured out the placement of the keys and I found myself typing without looking and I didnt even realize I was doing it for a few months or maybe even years...but yes for the most part I can type without looking.

funny thing.. yes, i know where the button's are.. but when i dont look at least a bit.. i miss them :( I dont know the size of my keyboard, lol :D

I type like I play the piano. I don't have a specific finger for a specific key, instead I've developed my own unique style. Having said that, I can still type without looking at the keyboard (same with the piano), and reasonably fast. I never took a course or learnt how to "touch type" in the conventional sense.

Sure I do. Anyone who's spoken with me on AIM or something has probably caught me typing gibberish because one of my hands got mis-aligned on the keyboard ;)

yes i can type with ought having to look at the keyboard, but i do find myself looking at the keyboard now and again because of habit.

i am unable to type numbers, and punctuation with ought looking at the keyboard though.

I do that too from time to time but I don't type type, my hands travel. I developed this style while programming and needed all kinds of special characters. Sometimes it's not real fast but if I know what I want to say and don't change my mind it's more than fast enough. For trying to retype something like in those typing tests it's painfully slow.

when i was in middle school we had to use type writers for typing class, no computers until high school
