Hi, I have an Ubuntu CD. I'm trying to install it on a separate partition, I formated this partition to be a fat32 and I booted up the CD. The partition isnt there, its just not showing up so what do I do? I really want to try Ubuntu. I'm starting a sort of company, more or less just an organized club and I'm going to set up a sort of network of Ubuntu computers. Their just used for you know, work and basic needs and I'm not going to need any virus protection from anything and Ubuntu has thousands of free software out there just for it. Please, someone explain this to me. I want to get it working on my laptop before I test it on a server.

Thanks

Ubuntuforums.org is a great forum and they'll be able to get you to where you want to go. That being said, here is some beginning advice:

During install there is an option to have it take up a certain percentage of your disk drive. There is a slider to determine how much free space it takes. To try it out, I'd start out with about 10gb plus a partition for the page file. In addition, don't use Fat32, stick with the native file system supported by Ubuntu.

BTW, what version are you using? Version 6 installs off of a bootable live CD where you can try it out before you even install it, so maybe that would be better to try on your laptop instead of installing it if you don't intend for it to be permanent. Better yet why not just install it on one of your networked computers that you mentioned.
