Core 2 Duo or Exteme?

What's the difference between these two processors?

And if it makes anything easier, I'm only asking to figure which suits a gaming machine better.

The Core 2 Extreme has a higher stock speed, and more importantly an unlocked multiplier. The Extreme is obviously the better processor, but not really worth the extra money, IMO.

Agreed. Buy one of the lower C2D processors (such as the 6300, can't beat the price) and compliment it with a nice GPU. Then tuck the money away that you saved, for when the quad core processors come down to affordable prices.

other cpu, as e6700 is unlocked from 6 to 10 too

All of the Core 2 Duo models are unlockable downwards (like you explain there) with the right motherboard, but the Extreme series is unlocked upwards (ie, to 25x or so).

Do they go up to 25x? I know the E6300 is only 7x, so that would be a pretty insane speed  (6.65Ghz)
