hi, i currently have xp pro on my pc and my system specs are as followings, amd 64 3800+ X2, kingston 1gb ddr2(553mhz, 512x2), and sapphire x1300xt with 256mb ddr2 ram. I found the new releasing version(z) of windows to be funny, because my pc is 64bit capble and there are like 6 versions of vista out there. which one should i choose, the 32bits, or the newer 64bits? will i be able to install games designed in 32bits and dx9 environment on a 64bits operating system?? thanks in advance.

Most here will recommend waiting for a good period of time before even upgrading to the 32bit version of Vista. After having tried the RC1 beta of just the 32bit release there XP seems to stay on top. The games to come out for DX10 along with the current ones will still be 32bit not best suited for 64bit. Unlike the initial jump seen going from WIN 95 to 98 seeing the move from 16 ot 32bit the move from 32 to 64bit is one thing that will be far slower.

The five versions of 32bit Vista are Basic, Premium, Ultimate for home and small office applications and Business and Enterprise for the larger corporate. The first three there are obvoiusly the best for gaming. The 64bit version of XP has fun trying to run many games by itself. The newer 64bit version or versions of Vista should prove interesting since no one can really answer that question until the OS and it's divisions have been used for a good period of time with a large variety of games tried.

Vista 64 is supposed to be like 20 times better then XP64 now that most company's are releasing 64-bit programs and drivers.... if you have older stuff liek a camera from like 3-4 years ago then it might not work on V64

i too have been wondering how the 64 bit version(s) of vista handle 32 bit applications and games. as i recall xp64 had a quite a few problems in that regard. one would think it wouldn't be that hard to make the 64 bit versions of these operating systems backwards compatible to 32 bit applications.

on another note, i am getting the 32 bit version of vista home premium for free through an upgrade coupon that came with a copy of windows xp mce 05 (OEM version for 100 bux) that i recently purchases. so, for the time being this isn't really relevant to me anyways. :p

I have got my copy of Vista from Overclockers.co.uk for £88.

There were only three things that needed drivers on my system when i upgraded. They were the tv card drivers, graphics card drivers and the sound drivers.

I have used the following games on the 64bit OS-
Battlefield 2
Battlefield 2145
NFS, Mostwanted
MFS, Carbon
and Flight Simulator X

The all worked fine with no glitches that i can tell of.
