Hmm. It being AGP, probably around $75-$85. Or higher, depending on what people pay :).

you could get up to £90 for it to be fair, its almost unattainable over here at the moment, some up on ebay have buy it now prices around the £90 mark

I just looked on Ebay and there's a PCI-e version for about £90 and there's the AGP versions for £60.

Do you think it's worth holding on to or getting a PCI-e card for under £120?

I'd hold onto it until you're ready to upgrade your processor, mobo, ram, graphics - basically rebuild your entire computer. The graphics card is probably the best part of your system right now.

I'm getting an Intel E6300 on a MOBO that will allow me to use my AGP card (PCI-e x4 in the future, I know it isn't great) and DDR RAM and DDR2 in the future.

So my current GPU is pretty good by todays standards or not?

It's two generations back on shader technology (SM2 vs SM4 today), not to mention 2 generations back in technology. It's a brute force graphics card that relies on a powerful core to work through things. The arguement is that it still beats X1600's and 7600GT's in alot of things, because those cards aren't really powerhouses in SM3 executions anyways. Another big thing it has going is a 256-bit memory bus.

I'd keep it. Then again, I think you should build your computer with a discrete PCIe x16 slot in mind, and DDR2. Keep your eyes open for some DDR2 being sold on here, like Omega having recently sold his Patroit memory. But, its your money.

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll keep it untill I find a good PCI-e card and get the money. 256 isn't really that much anymore, considering there are cards out with 730 or something.

I'm getting an E6300 soon, with a board that'll let me use all my current stuff :D

well,i say keep it for a while,I think that 256Mb on a card is enough for most games today....i dont think many games would use all 256mb of the cards memory but probably in future games like Alan wake and crysis they probably do use more.

Yeah, I think I'll keep it, it's a pretty good card still!

:D Thanks

Most games out now do use most or all of the 256MB available, and even some games like FEAR on ultra settings require a 512MB video card.

I can run FEAR on high now with-out any problems at all, I thin it'll be even better with an Intel Core 2 Duo.

Graphics needs is largely dictated by display. 19" LCD? Not too difficult for an x850, 7600GT, etc. But once you get into the 20" (1600+ x 1000+) display setting things really get more difficult. And on the subject of vid ram, this comes into play when playing on large resolutions. Larger textures and such to store.

I said fear on Ultra settings, not high settings :p

And I would keep you're x850. It's actually really cheap for the performance you get, and any newer model of the same price would be alot lower (performance wise). I remember selling my x850PRO and for the same price I could only get a 7600GS.

Ok Thanks, I'll keep it then! :D

Are the 939 AMD 64 x2 4200's any good?

Don't even think about it.

C2D E6300. Bang for buck. Honestly, you don't sound like you've made up your mind.

C2D E6300 183
Gigabyte DS3 123
A-Data 667 1.8v 2x1GB Kit 135
EVGA 7600GT 110 (100 After MIR)

That's ~550 for a capable computer that is pretty much up to date. The 7600GT is a great SM3.0 card that will be capable for a while longer now, and its not so expensive that you'll feel bad replacing it soon with a DX10 card when midrange ones come out that you can afford. You also have the option of overclocking that setup pretty good, too. Should be able to hit 3.0Ghz all together. You can even shave some money by going with an E4300, S3, only a Gig stick of ram for now, and maybe buying just a 40 dollar graphics card to run your computer till you buy yourself DX10.

Just a quick point, isn't there meant to be a PCI-e 2.0 coming out in the not to distant future?
