I have a compaq SR1820NX. It came with a 160GB IDE Ultra ATA hard drive which has now crashed on me. Currently im typing on my desktop keyboard and viewing my desktop monitor while moving mouse on my laptop pad since i cant use my desktop and this is the only way i can get on line to ask u guys this. I want to buy a new hard drive but i dont know which type to get. There is 100 and 133. Im baffled. thank you in advance for your help because I've always received an answer on here when my computer troubles me.

You'll want an ATA133 hard drive... which is a type of IDE. Anything IDE that you buy new today should be ATA133, I'd check Newegg, you could get another 160GB for probably around $60.

It's Ok man, I wasn't like telling you off :p

I don't know if you can use a SATA, you may be able to, depends on if your motherboard has the connectors on it?

Huh... the board in the picture is not the same described in the specs. The board in the picture has 4 SATA and 2 IDE, while the board described has 2 SATA and 1 IDE. Either way, you should be fine.

Yeah, so you should be able to get a SATA drive if you really want to :)

EDIT:

They look like this, they may not be red though, they could be any colour, they're normally near the IDE connector

what do u mean by if i really want to...arent they better than IDE?? thats my whole reason for getting SATA

and what does the SATA 3.0GB/s refer to..speed? newer version?..it will still work with my SATA connectors right?

Also, make sure that your power supply has a SATA power connector, and you'll need a SATA cable too. Some hard drives come with a molex to sata connector and a SATA cable, but I normally buy OEM and I've never gotten one.
