ok, let's be serious, if you think ati's cards are overpriced, nvidia's cards are overpriced as well. the comparable cards from each manufacturer have similar price tags and offer similar performance.

in reference to the above, the X1650PRO is comparable in performance to a GeForce 7600GS.

Ah, I never said Nvidia's weren't overpriced, I was simply just agreeing with Elitehacker. I guess I should have specified that.

Also, though you didn't ask. What I meant by sticking with Nvidia, is that I have one of their cards, and I'm gonna keep it for a while. A lot of the cards out on the market are overpriced, and I'm not ready to pay $600 just to get DX 10.

LMFAO.. no its not.. the 7600 will smoke the X1650 Pro.. besieds.. i bought a X1650 pro for $200... it scored a 1,900 in 3DMark06.. Then I decided to go with Nvidia, got a 7900GTO for $230... now I pull a 6,200 in 3DMark06.. SAME SETTINGS.. $30 more!

So you are saying one card and one benchmark with one benchmark software you have such conclusive evidence?

The models are always comparable, consider price more than model. The high end ATI cards have outperformed Nvidia until the 8 series came out. This can be confirmed easily with a google search.

Not really, Just look at the budget high end category, the 7900GT and the X1950pro. The 7900GT consistently thrashes the X1950pro, I would know because I have a 7900GT and one of my friends have a X1950pro and we benchmarked it together, in the same system to get consistently results. We not only used 3dmark but real games too, and we disregarded results from Doom 3 and Half life 2 because its blatantly obvious that Doom 3 had been optimised for Nividia and HL2 for ATI. We used games like generals and other ones that don't have the "nvidia its meant to be played" logo.

To add further salt to injury, the X1950pro runs hotter and is physically bigger than the 7900GT. So from that I base my opinion that Nvidia is better than ATi at the moment. I also know that the 7600GT thrashes the X1650pro as well, the same goes for the 6600GT to the X800GT.

no man.. a few weeks ago i spent about a week googling 3dmark scores and comparing them to price.. ATI couldnt keep up at all.. SO expensive for the score they were getting

My Radeon 9250 blows the Nvidia PCI cards out of the water :) lol who cares about PCI cards? I think right now Nvidia has the best cards out. Like someone else said earlier they are both great companies it just depends on the time. It's kind of like the Olympics, they're all really good, just sometimes one is a little ahead of the other. A couple of years ago ATI was ahead of Nvidia with their 9800 and x800XT. Now the 8800 is the top card without a doubt.

my x800GTO would whoop a 6600-6800's butt any day of the year

i have several benchmarks proving otherwise. a X1950 Pro is about 250

i am a loyal nvidia customer, but ATI isn't all bad or worse then nvidia as it is being made out to be by some here. it's a matter of personal preference. which manufacturer has the fastest card flip-flops back and forth. i couldn't care less as i won't ever purchase a 500+ dollar graphics card anyways.

I have not benchmarked the 7600GS before, but from the experience of others, I believe the overclocking headroom of it is higher than the ATI counterpart. So even if it IS slower than the ATI marginally at default settings, it would be worth your while to get a nvidia card, because I can safely say that the 7600GS will smoke the X1650pro when its overclocked.
