I recently purchased and installed a cable networking router. I can only acess the internet from one computer... which happens to be the one that had the internet connection before the network... the other computer is connected to router but i dont think its getting to the internet. I think it might be the network adapter on the computer that isnt getting to the internet because when i built the comp it had problems plus some of the motherboard drivers (this is a built in LAN on MB) were not compatible with windows. Im thinking it didnt install correctly but would that still allow me to access the router on it and not the internet... Help pleas!!!!!! By the way I am running everything with a Dynamic IP and DHCP server is enabled and I power cycled the whole network after installing.

Also I purchased a 15$ NIC to install in the computer that isnt connected and It will now allow me to bridge the connection when i go through the network wizard when it previously wouldnt bridge. It still isnt connected although it says its connected.... help please!!!!!!

Does the internal network work?

Dynamic IP is only really for cable, DSL uses PPoE

I had a somewhat similar problem with a LAN where everything worked well locally, but only one computer could access the internet. After trying a lot of settings, configurations, programs, etc., eventually I found this pretty utility that solved the problem: http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/proxy.htm
Install proxy.exe on the computer that accesses the internet and set up the other computer to use the first computer as a proxy.
Hope it helps.

lorand, Can i still use my router with that program or do i have to connect other comp directly to this comp.... because i want to go through a residential gateway (router) with both computers.

The purpose of a router is to provide NAT support so that multiple computers can share one internet connection.

yes but i am also aware that you can connect through another computer... does that still involve a router or do you use multiple NIC's on the main comp?

I would also like to clarify that I can log on to the menu on the router by typing in the IP to it but i cant transfer data from one comp to the other or access internet through the new one.... so I know it has to do with my setup on the computers themselves and not the hardware.

Either way works... see next point:

The NAT will work once the internal networking is set. Visit the link i keep posting over and over again :D
