I'm really confused were to post, so I'll just post here...if its the wrong place, mods feel free to move the page.

Alright, I am having a little problem with this video card I got. First of I'll start by saying my computer is a 4 year old desktop, originally Windows 98, however I got a XP disk, and downloaded it. The video card I just got was ATI Radeon 9600SE. After following the instructions to delete the drive, and open up the computer, I found a big problem. The AGP, and PCI slots are very different from my new video card. My old one, GeForce Vanta has 4 parts coming out..3 small ones, and one curved on the front. So its like a rectangle with 4 things coming out of one of its sides. My New Video card on the other hand had 3. Two big parts, and one of the curved in front. When I removed my old video card, and tried putting me new one in (AGP Slot) it wouldn't go in, so I tried PCI same thing happened...

..please help.

The card you had is a agp 2x card with 4 parts coming out as you said and the newer cards such as the 9600se you purchased has 3 parts , including the bent part in front. If the card you bought is not fitting in the mobo it may be that the mobo only supports agp2x and nothing more. I have a computer that is 4 years old as well and it was upgradable to a newer card and it also originally had a geforce tnt2 vanta so it should fit. The newer mobo's use the bent piece to secure the card in place and the older mobos dont have a latch for it. Last thing you can try to do is put the card in and dont try to make the bent notch fit anywhere because it probably has nothing to latch into.

If you can find out what exact mobo you have i could be more sure

your vanta must be on 2X, and one require at lesat AGP 4X (that is one line all around) or AGP 8X, why did you bought a ATi 9600 to use on old board? you'll have to upgrade the mobo somehow. which processor u r running?
