heya guys, here it is:
my Nec 3540a shows up as a DVD-RW in my "my computer" screen...but when i go to burn a DVD, it shows up as a CD drive...whatever, right? so i figured i may as well try to burn it anyways...but it says that the correct media is not inserted.
im using memorex DVD's, and ive tried 5 out of the 50 in the stack.
whatya think, whats your diagnosis?

How are you trying to burn the disks? Are you using windows built in burning software or something else? I honestly have never touched the built in support. Deepburner seems to work so much better for me; at least when it comes to data disks and audio CDs.

You could also use Nero , if you were looking to buy the software. It will allow you to burn onto cd's and dvd's.

I like nero and many others.
Pay attention to the color of the die on the cd or dvd.
Blue, red, green or gray.
Some laser heads are more sensitive than others.
it might be the mechanism.

One thought if you buy one program get Nero.
its the most universal. that wont handle copy protection though.

p.s.
gotta love iso commander or iso buster for scheming.
and other illegal activity that i can't talk about here.
good luck with burn.
