Limewire

Does anyone here use limewire? Is it legal? On their website it says if you share the file it is illegal, if there isn't a license. Then, it goes to tell you on how to see if you are sharing. Even though you are taking, is it stretching it to say that you aren't sharing, as long as you don't share your music? I have heard about a lot of viruses coming from limewire, as well. Maybe this is way too off topic, but I am curious. Thanks.

oh yes, downloading movies and stuff is illegal and yes limewire does bring lots of viruses. right now as i write this, i'm cleaning a pc ,it has been infected with the WORM/Brontok.a

Use a torrent client instead of Limewire. They are much faster and more reliable.

Limewire itself is not illegal, it depends on what you download is copyrighted or not. Although limewire is one of the most popular ways to download copyrighted materials. And yes limewire is FILLED with virus and spyware.

Guys, i think you should read the rules first before posting this kind of stuff and torrents is not legal too...

Torrents and LimeWire arent illegal, but probably 99% of the content is. Whenever someone talked about downloading via torrents or P2P programs, it's almost always illegal content.

Well yea OMEGA ur right but the stuff in them that are 99% illegal makes torrents and limewire illegal too...atleast that's my opinion.

your opinion is wrong torrents are 100% legal what kind of torrents you download is your determining factor. I use a torrent to download americas army why? because it is a huge game and might take several hours on a slow server where i can get it through there in 3 hours or less without having to download a download manager.

Yeah, just don't download illegal stuff and torrents are fine. Use microtorrent and run peer gaurdian 2 with it just in case while your are downloading legal torrents. Limewire is rotten with viruses and whatnot. Check out sites like demonoid, rlslog and thepiratebay to read user comments on torrents then add trackers from isohunt.

There are too many turds on this site who will cry about anything you post. P2P is not illegal, sharing copyrighted files is.

What are some legal torrents? I don't want to get a fine or something for downloading something illegal. Person to person isn't illegal? So if I download from limewire, and don't share, it is legal? Sorry, I may have lost you guys a way back.

Torrents and all p2p software is legal. JUst don't download copyrighted material and you are fine. The trick is figuring out what is okay to download. I heard, though I'm not sure, that it is legal to download a movie or album that you already own because it is legal to make a copy of your stuff on your computer. However you can't let people who don't own it download it from you. Say you own "In the Court of the Crimson King" by King Crimson, it is legal for you to rip that to mp3 on your computer, so It would be legal for you to download that from p2p which would be the same thing. But I guess it would be illegal to download it from someone who doesn't own it. I actually don't know what is legal anymore. Can you download a t.v. show? I have a t.v. tuner card and can record directly off of cable. Is that legal?

Rule of thumb, don't download anything that's less than two weeks old, still in theaters, or you don't already own. And don't let anyone download from your I guess.

It depends, in my opinion L*meW*re in general is illegal. A lot of people use it for illegal purposes, which is downloading copyrighted materials. Downloading copyrighted MP3s, etc. off L*meW*re is illegal. Don't ask if I use it or not.

99.9% of the music has random bits of loud -0dB static that will trash your speakers, or fails hash-checks altogether
and 110% of the documents, programs, and compressed archives are either COMPLETELY fake trojans, or legit, but still contain said trojans.

It's garbage. Anyone who's using gnutella or gnutella 2 to share files, legally OR illegally is just too lazy or stupid to figure out how to get a better client working on their router.

ok yes i know that limewire carries alot of bad bugs....but that is the only music sorce i have. is limewire still illegal if i pay the $35.95 fee for a year,because that is an option on the web.....if not do you know of anyother music programs that are bug free or low % and cheap?

You can pay what you want for it, but a) most of the files are still gonna be virus' and b) it will still be illegal to download most of the files. I-Tunes would be a good alternative, having not used it myself i cant give a review on it, but i heard its alright
