I have just overclocked my EVGA 8800GTS 640mb from stock 513 to 600 and 792 to 1017 with ATITool. Im currently running artifact scan, and my temperature stays at a constant 84C with my fan at 100%. Is this an extremely high temp? or is it just fine?

I would say thats pretty toasty mine doesn't run that hot 71c is as hot as it gets with fan at 100 and over clocked some. After playing for about an hour non stop.

Is 84C under constant load? If it is, it's not that bad tbh. I would say anything under 90C (as a max) is ok. I know that 84C seems very high but for a gpu it isn't remarkably high and i can't see you doing any prolonged damage to the gpu.

Under load, 84C should be approximately the MAXIMUM temperature your card should go. If you're checking after running ati tool's artifact scanner or max core/mem finder, don't worry about it. If that's idle...worry. For a comparison, mine gets to 79C if I run the artifact scanner for 15 minutes with clocks 648/1000
