How cd works

What the CD Player Does: Tracking
The hardest part is keeping the laser beam centered on the data track. This centering is the job of the tracking system. The tracking system, as it plays the CD, has to continually move the laser outward. As the laser moves outward from the center of the disc, the bumps move past the laser faster -- this happens because the linear, or tangential, speed of the bumps is equal to the radius times the speed at which the disc is revolving (rpm). Therefore, as the laser moves outward, the spindle motor must slow the speed of the CD. That way, the bumps travel past the laser at a constant speed, and the data comes off the disc at a constant rate.

Hey... did you know that if you have a CD that skips, or even a DVD that just freezes, you can just flush it in the toilet? Yeah... I know, im crazy. I thought my friend was crazy when he told me that too, until we did it with Lord of the Rings 3... we were at the major battle scene at the end, and it just froze. Everytime we tried to restart it, it would freeze, even if we fast forwarded past that 1 part. So my friend was like "just throw it in the toilet and flush the toilet."

Basically you stick the CD/DVD in the toilet, shiny side down (so obviously... label side up) and flush the toilet. This creates a suction because the CD blocks the water from flowing down the toilet. Probably think I'm crazy, but it works. Or at least... it worked on that DVD. My friend said he's done it with video games too.
