Shut downs during use

I built a computer, not my first time, but after playing video games for maybe 5-10 minutes the computer will just shut down. Or even just using google or something. I think it might be a cooling issue.

specs:
asus motherboard
p4 2.8ghz
radeon 9600 xt
512 mb ram
400w antec ps
80 gb western digital 7200
floppy
dvdrw

I have one fan next to the video card blowing onto the video card, and another one that just blows into the case. So there is only two fans. I thought this would be enough, but I guess it's not. How many do you recommend and in what place in the case. Are there any other cooling tools that I should use? Thanks

how many case fan places are left. theres usually 2 at the back, 1 at the front, plus any extras. what case do you have?

does it ever freeze or always shut down? if it freezes it could be a driver issue just to cancel that out I would get latest drivers for video card from somewhere like omega drivers. it sounds more like cooling though if you just built it their should be no problem with cooling invest in a good heat sink fan combo, like an xp-90 with delta fan or a zalman 770. this will probably correct the problem..

I have the exact same problem........

If the fan is spinning silently (Like it normally does), the computer reboots itself after about 5 minutes.

If the fan is spinning faster, making a noise, it will stay on until I manually shut it down.

EXCEPT, when I do something like play a game or watch a video.

Could this be my graphics card?

It never freezes. It just shuts down which is why I think it's a cooling problem. There are plenty of fan slots left. I'll try the tunnel of air tomorrow. Any other suggestions?

i agree with daveb2012
do you have a decent heatsink/fan for the processor
could even be a problem with the power supply
check the fan on the power supply as well
most of the time, the customers i talk to that have this kind of problem it is an issue with overheating.
generally speaking it's not a chassis fan either. it's ususally either the processor or power supply

also, even if the power supply fan is working, try swapping it out anyways

had a customer the other day that said his power supply fan was working fine, but after about 5-10 minutes it would still get really hot and cause it to shut down on him

Do you know the temp of your CPU? If its overheating, it could cause your computer to reboot or shutdown. If you dont know the temp, go to www.download.com and search for SpeedFan, that tells you the temp of your components. My old computer had the same problem, but that was because there was no heatsink or fan on it. lol

78 Degrees celsius! I'm guessing thats why it's doing this.

Is there any way to cool it down even more? my fan's putting out its maximum!

Im going to suggest another approach to this.....I had a problem with the same exact symptoms....random shutdowns at any time.....After weeks of messing around with drivers, checkign temps, etc i got pissed and took it to a local computer store. The problem? A failing psu.....which i think you have. If you can, try your psu on another computer or try another psu on your computer. Im betting you will find this to be the problem.
