Cable home network

Hi

I am trying to build a home network which would connect only two pc´s together... When I connect those two computers together system still notifies me that network cable is unplugged... Both computers run Win XP.

I tried several times an option to create "home network" in "network connections " window but every time it failed to work.

Do you have any suggestions what might be the problem? Shouldn´t the system detect connection of two or more computers by cable even without any config?

you say you are building a home network ?
how ? what are the equipments you are using ?
switch or crossover cable ?

edit : you don't need to use wizard, if the network cable is unplug probably the device you're plugging into is off

it helps to verify the cable is working. you have a cable tester?

Well on both computers the connection is enabled... I tried 3 cables suppose all of them were crossover...

And I don´t have a tester... I will try look for one
