XEON Cpu's?

Ok, I have a couple questions about the Xeon server CPUs..
Whats the major difference between the Xeon CPUs and other Intel CPU's? What make the Xeon a purely "server" processor?
I was under the impression that anyone not looking into getting a server would find penrym and conroe (correct me where I'm wrong, I was never very good with core names) quad cores much more efficient.
and if this is true, why does the MacPro use Xeon CPUs?

is not mandatory to have multiple xeons you can get one only too.

the new mac pro has 2 quads cpu then they advertised it as 8 cores.

The big difference is motherboard compatibility. Intel Xeon CPUs are socket 771, whereas Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quads are socket 775. The former used with servers, the latter used with desktops. Take a look at the soon to be released Skulltrail mobo if you're interested in using Xeon procs in a PC desktop environment.

Like Kof2000 stated, Apple use Xeon procs for the ability to use up to eight cores. Mac Pro users are typically people in graphic design, media editing, etc. Processing power is essential when running these type of hard core applications.
