What do you do with your old computers?

What do you generally do with your old computers?

My house is startint to look like an old folks home for overheating, lethargic, hissing laptops. I was wondering what everyone else does with their old stuff.

well i would like to keep my old rig and put it in my sisters room so she can do her homework etc on it but theres just not enough space in her room :p

the last two older pcs ive had i sold :)

1) keep it if the house could use an extra or 2) take it to the office or 3) if my dad needs a new computer at his work, than that works too

last thing I did was #3 after i built the new rig

There always seems to be a member of my family running something ancient so for the most part I'm able to provide them with upgrades. Some stuff I keep as a spare and anything too old gets thrown away.

Though I don't beat the hard drives with a hammer, I keep them ( so far I kept all, you never know, I may want to...make a Franken-puter :p)

I used to keep it, but when are you really ever gonna use it? If you ever find yourself piecing together the parts of 5 year old computers you really need to get out. Everything I had stored away is now in the bin, it's worthless, and not worth the effort of making 10 quid on ebay. It was all worth thousands a few years ago, but hey.

Most of my stuff is pretty old and still in use. I guess it just depends on what you consider old and considered useful. I still have 3 P4's which I use for various tasks. Usually if it's still functioning, I'll find some way to use it. If it doesn't work then it's pitched or gave away.

I picked up a gateway 2000 on the swap table at the dump. I had the same model (upgraded to the max) and decided to see what the stock model was like and whatnot. After fooling a bit (and bending a cooling rod on MY gateway 2000 heatsink) I just took them apart. The cases went to the metal dumpster @ the dump and the other parts (mobos, CPUs, soundcards, modems, etc) are sitting in a box in the back room. There is a guy down the street that recycles components, so they'll be going to him real soon.

The custom build my dad made is just sitting in the back room collecting dust. The case is still in great condition.

My first desktop PC was given to my mother. My mother was a newbie so It was good to start on them. Then it died and I put him into a closet. It takes some place so I'm thinking about getting rid of it. My second desktop PC I gave to my sister. It is pretty good even by now. Now she has a laptop and I'll take this PC with me to my new flat where I'll live alone. Now I have Toshiba laptop and I think it will serve me at least 2 years. :rolleyes:
By the way each member of my family has his/her own laptop. So I have 4 laptops in my flat. :)

I give them to family...so far my brother has my 5600+ Rig,my sister has 4800+ rig and my mom has my old Hp my son has my athlon xp 2800+ Rig....man lotta computers

i clean the hard drives and sell.
i sold the dell i had, the optiplex gx100, see image :



it had only 128mb ram (Sdr) so i got another 256 and installed windows XP and sold it
