hi. i have an extra component cable lying around from a cable receiver and im just wondering something. since the actual connector looks the exact same for composite and component cables, only the colour is different, can the 3 r,g,b connections be used for the composite r,w,y connections? i know there's a huge difference between the technology, but as long as the colours match on both my tv and other equipment, will it still work the same and not damage anything? thanks..

If you can plug them into a vcr you can plug them into a tv tuner or composite capture card since those are standard RCA phono plugs. The yellow is for video while the red and white are the left and right.

so then, for example, the blue could be video and the r + g as audio right?

no,it isnt.what you say is component wire which got red, blue and green plugs for video as individual color communication and got red and white plugs for left and right audio communication.
what he said is the a/v wire which only got 3 plugs, coz there is only one communication for the video there is not gonna be awesome performance.
Do I make myself clear?

If you are not working with a three into one type cable but 3 RCA phono plugs on both ends that would be a typical patch cord. One audio cord used here is grey and black for the left and right channels showing the type of cable not the color of plugs is what decides how it is used.
