Looks like a solid build to me.

As for what one would pay to build, go to newegg.com and tally it up yourself. Doubt anyone knows off hand exactly how much it would cost and if someone has to spend 10 minutes looking up each component's price, it might as well be you.

lol i dont expect anyone to look it up I meant that you all should just guess what it was off the top of your head....

i put this together for a little under xxxx* including the OS and a few more application type software...(crysis, halo 2, MS office)

*i will tell ya in a few more posts, im just curious to see if I did well

as for the 32 MB cache it was much more expensive as I got a great deal on this SATA HD

if you are transferring files over the network switch to a 10/100/1000 card, that should be on standard on a board like that anyway. Everything else looks at great. At this price range (1500+) you really can't go wrong with any of the components available in the price range.

You may want to go for a HDD with a 32 mb cache (Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 or ES.2.) I don't think there will be a noticeable increase in speed if you decide to do that anyway.

The case comes with a 420W PSU. Since you're getting the Thermaltake, find the NZXT model without the PSU. The build looks good.

not sure how much your willing to spend on ram, but try to find some low latency ddr1066 or ddr1333. the latency is the first number of the timings specs (ex. 5/5/5/15) i'd try to find memory at a CL of 5 or lower. I'm pretty sure that for ddr1066 CL the lowest out is 5. ddr 800 is good, but you'll see an increase if you get low latency 1066/1333 ram since your fsb is higher (intel builds often need a good balance between computer components, where as AMD buils are very cpu orientated)

why 1066 or even 1333!!!! and DDR... it is outdated, do you mean DDR2?

Most people use 800 DDR2 and don't have a problem, why would you need 1066 or even 1333!?

to save on costs ddr2 is still the dominant memory speed. it can go 1:1 with a 1600mhz fsb which is very easy to aquire via overclocking, it can cost as little as $25 for 2gigs after rebates from newegg. its sure what i would (and did) choose.

the faster ram doesnt seem like its worth it to me for the extra money, as for the 32mb cache hdd it is also too much money for a little upgrade in speed.

well this set up cost me about 1800, i was wondering if you all could give me a rating on how i did....how good of a gaming/multitasking/multimedia system this is and how i did with the price.

Thanks again!

It is good for Multitasking, Multimedia and some gaming. You could've done better for how much you paid.... but it is good anyway.
