its no overclocker but i cant say that its a bad deal, the motherboard would suit most needs.

I figure it's a pretty good deal if you plan to go AMD and not overclock. Then again, IMO the Phenom also shouldn't cost $235 compared to similar Intel quads.

I did a price search on the Phenom and it starts at $235 by itself.
Read the reviews on the motherboard (free one), they said nothing really nasty about it.
Most said they had no problems with it.
I think it's a good deal for an AMD 4 core budget build.

To beat it all that newegg deal is bogas, that board doesnt even support the 9850!! This is 2 times I have saw this. A 125 watts Phenom would set that cheap a@@ board on fire! It doesnt even support the 9750.

StrangeHold - that board will work fine with the 9850. It's not optimal if you plan to overclock but it will work just fine for basic needs.

If you don't believe me read the reviews for that mobo.
Other Thoughts: For those of you buying the Phenom 9850BE combo, do not fear. I was skeptical of the combo at first, but I installed the mobo and processor flawlessly, no BIOS update required. Running XP Pro x64. Probably not the best board if you want to overclock heavily. But then again the board was free for me, so I'm not complaining.

Show me! Instead of just claiming it will. Some Proof!! Its a cheap made board and was never intended to run a 125 watts Phenom, you,ll have nothing but problems. Plus if later it burns out Biostar will not let you RMA because your running a unsupported processor. Its only a 3 phase power design with only 9 mosfets, talk about a fire trap with a 9850.

look around, its been shown that these boards do not officially support it but the manufacturers almost always say that it WILL work.

On this one its the other way around on this one. This guy said it will support a 9850, I and biostar says it doesnt. Sure if you installed a 9850 it would probable recognize it but you better keep a fire extinguisher close by. Biostar doesnt have the 125 Watt 9750 and 9780 listed as supported for a reason. Simple answer, its a cheap made board.:p Thats one reason newegg is giving them away, but they picked the wrong processor to do it with.

you just might be right. i personally dont know much about this particular board but with most of the boards i have seen that did not officially support the 9850, they actually ran it perfectly and without many heat issues, but heat was still over the threshold that manufacturers considered safe, so in order to not be held accountable in case the board breaks, they decide to simply not officially recognize it.

Yea the big problem is the lower end ones have outdated Voltage Regulators in a three phase power layout with less mosfets with out heatsinks.

well you may have just found a good solution right there. there are really few mosfets, why not just heatsink them? its not difficult to do, and it practically ensures the boards safety.

Yea that would be the best thing to do if you just had to use the lower end board since it comes free, burn it up just trash can it, it was free. But the Biostar TA770 A2+ is just 10 buck more and is compatible with both the 9750/9850 but still just has a 3 phase, but they are more updated regulators and still just has only 9 mosfets.

I dont know, I just build computers for people and I just refuse to use lower end parts, last thing you want is people bringing things back. I wont even use Biostar, had problems with them in the past. Honest if I ordered the processor I would throw the board across the back yard or nail it to the wall as a souvenir.:p But each to his own.

Just stumbled across this newegg ad where if you buy a Phenom, you get a free motherboard. I didn't study it too carefully, but it seems like that is the case. That Biostar A770 mobo isn't bad either.

The cpu is faster then the motherboard so it wouldn't run at full potential, but you could buy it for the phenom, and sell the mb again.
