Here are the parts that I am thinking of ordering:

Case:

One thing that confused me about buying ram is the cas latency. The lower, the faster it will react right? Then why do all the new ram like DDR 800 have cas latencys of 5 and the old DDR would have a latency of 2 or 3?

I wasn't sure about how to pick a nice motherboard out.
I'll talk it over with my asian friends later today, but I just read off a website that this one is pretty good. But might be exceeding the requirements of the pc i'm going to build.

I was debating to whether get this one or the q6600.
I heard this one was better for gaming right now, so thats what i went with.

I have yet to pick out a CD/DVD drive.
I have no clue what to look for in that, and i don't think it's very important either.

My budget is that i'd like to keep it under $800
All of this is running me about $810 right now without the cd driver.
My motherboard seemed pretty expensive so i'd like to get a cheaper one that would still runn all my gear.
Also, I think the CPU is kinda expensive from newegg, so if anyone could find the same one for less?

Space isn't a problem since the reviews said the case was very spacious.
But sound it a problem. I don't want to be very loud.

This is my first computer and i know VERY little about this stuff.
So any tips or suggestions would be awesome.

first of all what do you want your computer to do? (ie play games, multimedia ect)

the e8400 is good for gaming, you were not completely incorrect. however look at it this way. if you buy the e8400 now, in our make-believe game you will get about 100FPS and with a q6600 you would get about 85-90. you can only see up to 30fps so even though the e8400 really is better, you cant tell. now in two years, a new game will come out and that same e8400 will get like 25fps, which is playable but not good. the q6600 on the other hand will be doing quite well, at around 35-40fps. this is the advantage of two more cores.

the human eye can't tell anything higher than 60 fps - thats wut i've heard.
for some reason, my REALLY sh1tty computer(6 years old, tons of viruses, 20 min start up (if i'm lucky), 512 ram, 5 series graphics card, single core cpu) i get 100 fps for cs.

i don't understand how people play games at under 60 fps.
theres just so much delay.

i get wut ur saying, but if i buy the e8400 now, can i upgrade to a high end quad core later? is cpu something i can just take out and put back it? cause i was thinking of getting the e8400 now, and in 2 years, upgrade to the really high end quad core.

also, for like programs that we use form day to day (itunes, photoshop, movie players) which one would run faster?
or would they be about the same?

i'm going to be using it mostly for gaming.
i don't think i'm ever going to need more than 250 gigs, but wtf? how are the 250 gig and the 500 gig the same price?

also, my friend told my about raid 0 or raid 1, something like that. it's supposed to combine 2 hds and let them share the data?
how would i go about installing that?

if you need to know you probably shouldn't be doing it.
buy a raid controller or an mobo with an onboard one and configer the 2 hdds in your harddrive

you can switch the cpu yes but i don't know if you'd want to by a new cpu every year
are you building this yourself or is your friend doing it for you?

i'm building this myself.
with help from my dad, and maybe my friend.
but mainly myself.
i gotta read up on some sh1t during the 3 days that it takes for the parts to come.

Great build IMO. The Hard Disk Drive you selected is awesome with the big fat 32mb of cache.
The e8400 is an excellent processor; quiet, cool, and energy efficient. Personally, I wouldn't recommend the quad core for your needs, it consumes a lot more power. Besides, the performance different will not be noticeable.

That case is very nice, but you might want to look into the Antec 900 too.

I think that 450W might be a little too low.
I mean, my machine would not require THAT much power, but i have an above average CPU and video card.
I've read that that PSU is good, but will it be enought ot run this machine?
