    RAID Controllers/Cards

Lets talk RAID controllers for a minute here. I'm hearing what to watch out for when buying a RAID controller for my desktop PC (software, fakeRAID, Hardware). I don't want to get into all the different RAID configurations (1,0,10,5,6,12,60,50...etc). I just want to simply talk about the RAID...

    RAID 0 vs SSD?

I took your advise and used mdraid (mdadm commands). Everything went just fine, but the computer won't boot after a restart. I know you have to edit the /etc/fstab file to auto mount the drives. What is the right way to edit that file? I tried editing that file two different ways but it never...

I found this online click here that explains how to use mdraid. My question is do I need to add the new raided array to the fstab file so it will still be there after a reboot?

    RAID 0 vs SSD?

I was actually going to buy a RAID controller similar to this click here. I don't want to use software RAID (Fake RAID). This will be a Plex server with a Ubuntu OS. I have some cheap drives laying around and just thought buying a RAID card instead of a one large SSD would be the best way to go...

    RAID 0 vs SSD?

I'm looking to build a media server (lots of IOPS). This will be ran on desktop grade hardware not server grade. I could either buy a 4TB SSD for around $500.00 or get 4x 1TB HDD and put them in a RAID 0 for around $325.00 (including RAID controller). According to some websites the RAID 0 is...

I have created a simple bat script to copy some files from one location to another. After I run the bat file the command prompt shows up and just hangs there blank. The commands do run just fine, but I'm left with a black hangs command prompt. Is there something in the script that I can add to...

Block NTFS Permissions from being seen?

Is there a way to block a user from seeing all the NTFS permissions under the "Security" tab on a folder but still allow that person to access it (write, delete, etc...)? After a little research, I was able to block or Deny "Read Permissions" on the folder for a particular user. The problem is...

An ex-employee has walked off the job with one of our company laptops. The funny thing is that our remote software is installed on this particular laptop and I can remote in to it. This ex-employee has been contacted numerous times to return the laptop, but refuses. What steps could I take to...

    Hot & loud Power Supply

Ok, I'll replace it. This computer is going to be running 24/7 as a Plex server. As far as being energy efficient, wouldn't I want to go with a 80 PLUS Titanium or Platinum series PSU? I don't need a lot of Watts. According to the CoolMaster calculator 380W would work just fine.

    Hot & loud Power Supply

The fan on my PSU is always running hot with the fan at like max RPM's. I had it as a FreeNas Box running Plex Media Server. Every time a friend would stream media from my server the fan would just kick into high gear. Is this because of content rendering or it's getting too hot? I am...
